At the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), ophthalmologists, optometrists\u00a0and\u00a0other\u00a0eye care professionals are helping shape the future of vision care through\u00a0cutting-edge\u00a0technologies, groundbreaking research and patient-centered treatment approaches. For\u00a0clinicians\u00a0seeking a career\u00a0where innovation elevates care, VA offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of Veterans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Advancing\u00a0eye\u00a0care<\/h2>\n

VA\u00a0continually invests in technologies and programs that improve access to care and patient outcomes. From advanced diagnostic imaging and laser treatments to telehealth eye\u00a0care services that connect Veterans in rural communities with specialists, VA is\u00a0leveraging\u00a0innovation to ensure Veterans receive the high-quality eye care they deserve.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ophthalmologists at the Atlanta VA Medical Center developed an innovative tele-eye program\u00a0called\u00a0Technology-based Eye Care Services (TECS)<\/a>\u00a0to expand Veteran access to eye care. TECS screenings have\u00a0successfully diagnosed glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, dislocated lenses and more. Efforts like this not only\u00a0benefit\u00a0Veterans but also contribute to advancements in eye care across the broader medical community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Air Force Veteran Ben Parks<\/a>\u00a0receives eye care services at the Travis W. Atkins\u00a0VA\u00a0Clinic in Bozeman, Montana,\u00a0and was pleasantly surprised at the level of care.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe equipment at the Bozeman clinic is truly\u00a0next\u00a0generation,\u201d Parks said. \u201cMy health technician\u00a0Amber explained that with the new equipment she has, we\u00a0likely didn\u2019t\u00a0need to do the dilation, and, in fact, we did not.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A\u00a0diverse\u00a0practice\u00a0environment\u00a0<\/h2>\n

Eye care providers\u00a0at VA care for a patient population with a wide range of ocular health needs. Veterans often present with complex medical histories, creating opportunities for physicians to practice comprehensive, challenging and highly rewarding medicine.\u00a0<\/p>\n
