September 11, 2026

Today, we ask all National Labor Relations Board employees to take a moment to reflect on those who were lost, their families and loved ones, and all those who continue to bear the lasting impact of September 11.

We pay tribute to the extraordinary courage, service, skill, and compassion of the thousands of first responders who answered the call that day and in the difficult days, months, and years that followed. Their selflessness in the face of unimaginable danger remains an enduring testament to the very best of the American spirit.

We also recognize the thousands of construction workers, tradespeople, and other personnel whose service continued long after the attacks. They cleared wreckage, aided in the recovery, and worked tirelessly to rebuild and restore two enduring symbols of our Nation, the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

We remain grateful for the daily sacrifices made by our service members to protect our country and help ensure that future generations are spared the tragedy experienced by so many on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we solemnly remember those whose lives were taken, recognize the extraordinary service and sacrifice of those who answered the call, and express our profound gratitude to the countless Americans whose courage, steadfastness, and devotion helped our Nation endure, recover, and rebuild.

May the memory of those we lost, and the courage of those who served in the face of tragedy, remain forever in the conscience of our Nation.

We will never forget.

James R. Murphy, Chairman         Crystal S. Carey, General Counsel
David M. Prouty, Member
Scott A. Mayer, Member
James R. Macy, Member

Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year.
