Position Summary

The Office of the Director is offering a detail opportunity to serve as the Acting Office Head for the Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE). This detail is open to all qualified NSF employees and will not exceed one year in 120-day increments. For purposes of pay and benefits, the selectee will continue to encumber the position from which detailed. The individual selected will be required to file an “Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Report” (OGE-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 at the beginning and completion of the detail assignment.

Position Description

The OISE Office Head plays a major role in Foundation policymaking and U.S. Government decisions affecting international science and engineering activities. The Office Head oversees a wide range of international programs, formal and informal, conducted within the Office and elsewhere in the Foundation, providing policy guidance, coordination, and liaison with outside groups and agencies. The incumbent is responsible for overall strategic planning and policy-setting for the Office, for allocation of staff, budgetary, and other resources, and for the evaluation of the activities of the Office. The incumbent sets overall goals and objectives, towards which progress is measurable, for the Office; plans the activities of the Office, including program initiation and termination; and has responsibility for evaluation of the outcomes of OISE-supported activities and programs to ensure their quality and effectiveness. 

The Office Head will supervise professional, technical, and administrative personnel and reports to the Chief Science Officer.

Applicants must meet the following mandatory technical qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated senior-level experience developing, coordinating, negotiating, implementing, or overseeing international science, engineering, research, education, or innovation partnerships.
  2. Demonstrated senior-level experience advising senior leaders or shaping organizational strategy on science, engineering, research, education, innovation, international engagement, or related policy matters.
