Synopsis

Proposals in the area of Gravitational Physics submitted to the Physics Section that are not governed by another funding opportunity should be submitted to the Section-wide funding opportunity: MPS Physics Research Programs (MPS Physics).

—

Proposal Submission Target Date:

    • The fourth Wednesday in November
    • November 25, 2026, for fiscal year 2027

Proposals submitted after the Target Date of the Fiscal Year may be considered for funding in the following Fiscal Year.

The Gravitational Physics program supports research and infrastructure on gravitation across large and small scales, including:

  • Data analysis for gravitational-wave detectors.
  • Instrumentation development and detector characterization at the NSF Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (NSF LIGO).
  • Technologies for next-generation detectors.
  • Research in classical and quantum gravity theory.
