Position Summary
The Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) is offering a detail opportunity to serve as the Acting SBE Directorate Head. This detail is open to all qualified NSF employees and will not exceed one year in 120-day increments. For purposes of pay and benefits, the selectee will continue to encumber the position from which detailed. The individual selected will be required to file an âExecutive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Reportâ (OGE-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 at the beginning and completion of the detail assignment.
Position Description
The SBE Directorate Head is responsible for directing and supervising SBEâs organizational structure and effectiveness, as well as the effectiveness of all organizational units and leading and implementing in accordance with the NSF Strategic Plan and Agency priorities.
The SBE Directorate Head is responsible for Directorate operations spanning all research, engineering, STEM education, research infrastructure, innovation, and other priority areas. The incumbent works collaboratively with the Chief of Business Operations.
This position serves as the NSF Directorâs principal leader and advisor in matters relating to the Directorate’s purview. The incumbent is responsible for formulating long-range plans, annual programs and priorities, and research policy, within the framework of statutory and National Science Board (NSB) authority.
Applicants must meet the following mandatory technical qualifications:
- Demonstrated executive-level experience shaping science, engineering, research, education, innovation, or technology strategy in support of the NSF mission and Administration priorities, to include U.S. scientific leadership, critical and emerging technologies, research security, workforce development, or technology translation.
- Demonstrated executive-level experience leading major research, education, innovation, grants, partnerships, facilities, or investment portfolios, including setting priorities, aligning resources, managing risk, and advancing mission outcomes in support of national science and technology goals.
