Official ‘Choose VA’ postcards are coming soon

Beginning August 13 through September 11, VA will mail official “Choose VA” postcards to approximately 3.8 million Veterans who are not enrolled in VA healthcare. If you receive one, don’t throw it away. It’s a legitimate VA communication designed to help Veterans learn about their healthcare eligibility and how to enroll.

A quick but important reminder about scams

You may have seen VA’s recent fraud alert regarding the “Veterans Savings Program” postcard scam, which has appeared in multiple states over the past year. Those postcards were not sent by VA, and Veterans are urged to discard them. When receiving Veteran related messaging, always consider what the message is asking you to do. VA only uses official channels such as www.va.gov or phone numbers that you can easily search online to see if it’s a VA number.  If scanning a QR code, look on your camera to see if the address is pointing to a www.va.gov address; some scams try to make the link appear to be legitimate. 

These new Choose VA postcards are legitimate VA communications. They come directly from VA as part of an official outreach campaign and shouldn’t be mistaken for past scams we’ve warned about. Ensuring Veterans don’t accidentally throw away these helpful mailers is a key part of the messaging—especially since previous scam alerts led many Veterans to be cautious with unexpected mail.
